Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we prepared a few answers on typical questions related to our meeting. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
What is the planned program for Thursday evening?
For those arriving early on Thursday, we are planning a small pre-meeting program. We will meet in the afternoon with finger food and drinks for a discussion on animal experimentation in physiological research, preceded by two lectures on the topic. This will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss current challenges, and connect with fellow participants ahead of the main meeting.
Will I recieve a certificate confirming my participation?
Yes. All registered participants will receive a digital certificate of attendance after the symposium, specifying their contribution (oral/poster). Certificates will be sent by email in the days after the event. Please ensure your name and institutional affiliation are correctly entered in your registration — these details will appear on the certificate.
What are my options to contribute to the meeting?
We’ve included several options to offer as many participants as possible the option to actively contribute to the meeting. We’ve currently scheduled 24 oral talks, each 10 minutes + questions, to show your own research. While not everyone will get a slot for an oral presentation, all will get the chance to show their research during one of the two poster sessions. In addition, we’ll kick off both poster sessions in the lecture hall with 10 flash talks, each lasting 90 seconds, to draw additional attention to your posters. Finally, we’ll also select our session chairs from our participants, which will be another 12 slots available for your contributions.
Erlangen is a rather small city, which is why accomodation is sometimes limited when there are multiple events in town. We therefore recommend to book your accomodation early.
How do I get to Erlangen?
Public transport: Erlangen is well-connected by train and long-distance bus services. You can either find direct connections to Erlangen or switch to local trains in Nuremberg that take ~30 min to reach the Erlangen train station.
Car: Erlangen is directly located at A73 between Nuremberg and Bamberg and can be easily reached from A3 as well.
Plane: The closest airport is Nuremberg airport, from where there is a direct bus connection to the Erlangen city center.
How do I reach the symposium venue?
Adress: Ulmenweg 18, Erlangen. As Erlangen is relatively small, the venue is easily accessible from anywhere within the city. Most people living here get everywhere walking or using (rental) bikes. Alternatively, you can get here by Bus – nearby stops are “Erlangen Schwabachanlage” or “Erlangen Unikliniken / Maximiliansplatz”. We recommend using Google Maps or the VGN website to organize your transport.
Can I park near the venue?
Close to the venue, there is a visitors parking center (Kussmaulallee 14, 91054 Erlangen). Parking here is rather cheap with 1€/hour. However, particularly during rush hours and around shift changes from the hospital staff it get’s reasonably busy. We recommend to park elsewhere (e.g. Parkplatzstraße, 91054 Erlangen) and get to the venue by bike, scooter or bus.
What are the requirements for submitted abstracts?
The abstract body should be no longer than 300 words. The title, authors, and affiliations are excluded from the word count. The abstract should provide an overview of your research idea, methods, results, and conclusions. We don’t set any specific requirements regarding abstract structure, inclusion of original data, or statistics. Abstracts are accepted in textform only.
Do I need to submit an abstract to join the meeting?
Yes, we want all attendees to actively contribute to the scientific program. However, don’t worry if you have not collected much to present yet. The meeting is for early-career researchers, and abstracts on your first experiments or your project idea are equally welcome.
I have some unpublished and/or confidential results – are my results published anywhere?
During registration, you can decide whether your abstract will be published in the abstract booklet we prepare for the meeting. If you opt out, we will only publish the title and authors of your abstract, and only the organizing team will see your complete abstract during program preparation. Otherwise, we will publish all accepted abstracts in a PDF booklet that will be made available on this homepage.
How can I register?
Registration and abstract submission are open until December 31st! You can register now and will have time until the end of the registration deadline to review and edit your submission, if needed! You can register through our registration portal.
What is the registration fee?
There will be no registration fee – the symposium is free for active participants. Regarding your other expenses, please refer to the section on Travel Grants below.
Will there be Travel Grants?
Yes! The German Physiological Society (DPG, Deutsche Physiologische Gesellschaft) generously supports our meeting with a total of €9,000 in travel grants. The available funding will be distributed equally among all eligible applicants, with a maximum of €300 per person. The final amount will therefore depend on the total number of applicants. For example:
- 30 applicants → up to €300 per person
- 60 applicants → up to €150 per person
- 90 applicants → up to €100 per person
⚠️Please note that only applicants with an affiliation in Germany are eligible for a travel grant from the DPG. We are currently searching for opportunities for travel support for international participants and will post updates here as soon as we have any.

⚠️Please note that the maximum of €300 is unlikely to be reached if the number of applicants is similar to last year, when more than 100 participants applied for travel support. The actual grant amount will be determined after the application deadline based on the total number of eligible applicants. Also, please be aware that reimbursement will take several months after the meeting and will require your invoices for accommodation and/or travel costs.
Will there be food provided on Thursday and Friday?
Yes, we plan to provide Lunch and Coffee Breaks for all active participants. Lunch will be likely at the Student Mensa Langemarckplatz which is a ~15 minute walk from the conference venue. In addition, there will be a social dinner on thursday afternoon which needs to be booked and paid seperately.
How is the social evening organized?
We are currently in contact with different locations to find a suitable solution. We plan to have a joint dinner and thereafter visit local bars within the city center.
